The western cave system has no external access, making it highly defensible. It is more a series of rooms than tunnels.

The western caldera is blessed with numerous low and long caverns, which have been converted to a variety of Halls. The Great Hall is floored with stone and used for large gatherings and dinners, while the Messhall has a packed dirt floor and is basically a cafeteria.

The tactical complex in the western caldera houses offices for Weyrstaff as well as meeting rooms and records rooms. It is the heart of the Threadfall Wings and the origin of the skirmishers.

Located in the Heights of the Western Balustrade, the smithy and glassforge are used to produce necessary supplies, weaponry, and small luxuries.

The armory of the western caldera is larger than its supplies, with many closed caverns for expansion. It contains both weapons and supplies such as riding straps and flight gear.
