Name: S'don (formerly Sarandon)
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Rank: Vanguard Wing, High Guard Half Wing, Wingsecond
Appearance: S'don strikes a woman's fancy with sun-streaked, hazel hair brushing the lashes of deep brown eyes. A somewhat flamboyant personality, he wears his hair thick and long, just touching his collar. Think surfer locks. A smile always plays at the corners of his well-formed mouth, and often erupts into a huge, beautiful smile that transfigures his face. Crows feet play at his temples, often crinkling with good humor. To complete the facial picture, S'don sports a square jaw, intense brows and full cheeks. S'don inherited a compact frame, shorter than he would like however, about 5'6". S'don bulks his muscles out, (perhaps he likes to in compensation for his self-perceived dwarfishness) and takes pride in his massive forearms, steely chest and beefed out calves. The ripped tendons sit easily on his shorter frame.
In High Reaches tradition, S'don often tattoos himself with inks and henna, entwining a large brown dragon on his upper and lower forearms. He changes the designs as the henna wears off, sometimes wrapping a dragon around his neck, or lower calf. One particularly adventurous tattoo covered his whole back!
As for clothing, he has a fondness for bold colors on his tunics: reds, greens and yellows paired with rusty brown breeches and leather riding gear. In a bit of vanity, he wears his shirts and pants a little tighter to show off the physique. He is a picture of guarded strength and intensity, always tempered by good humor and an easy-going nature. When S'don moves, it is with certainty, confidence and skill. Nothing seems too much for him to tackle.
Personality: An incidental leader, S'don has a commanding presence and natural way with people. Keen and perceptive, he reads individuals and responds to them the most appropriate manner to gain their goodwill and favor. His talents in diplomacy, problem solving and keeping the peace are exceptional. S'don makes friends easily with his big smile and easy-going nature. He doesn't hold grudges and forgives easily. His philosophy is that life is short, might as well live it. What good does it do to hate and withhold himself from the others around him? Herein lie his primary gifts.
Otherwise, S'don carries wanderlust in his blood and a thirst for adventure and chance. Spontaneous and often irresponsible, a born explorer and wanderer, he desires a new adventure more often than his infrequent positions allows it. Keep him at home more than a few months, and the Weyr or Hold he inhabits will have a problem on its hands. For S'don will make his own adventure, either with a woman, another dragonrider, a hold girl, or simply disappear on his own for weeks at a time. And of course it is impossible to be very angry for him for very long, so agreeable is his personality when he returns. Term to describe him the best? Likable rogue. Women fall fast for those big arms, but quickly learn that this man is unpredictable, unstable, and sometimes the best lover they've ever had.
S'don has a hidden talent for drawing, which only comes out publicly in his tattoos. Lath knows though, and often they draw together, or paint if they feel the urge. These times are extremely private to them, and S'don keeps his creations well hidden, only pulling them out for those who show a proper interest and respect for the art.
S'don doesn't do well as a leader, though he often falls into that position due to his tendencies towards eloquence, charm and a genuine way with people. He is genuinely likable, and people want to follow his lead. This rider tends to sabotage his best intentions by becoming bored, restless, or simply unavailable! To his chagrin, his reputation is catching up to him, and he's beginning to accept that as much as he'd like to be recognized by rank, it's simply not in his nature to buckle down and accept the responsibility. That is unless people are willing to put up with his shenanigans.
S'don also has a business and gambling streak in him. He's willing to be a hired hand to where he can make the most money. He'd never hurt a fly, but his drive to take risks is often soothed by smuggling and hired jobs from Major and minor hold leaders. As long as people don't know, what does it hurt to pocket a few extra marks?

History: Sarandon was born in High Reaches Weyr to brown rider F'der of Ticklenath and green rider Thanlia of Roaneth, the product of a lustful dragon flight. Thanlia had the child because the Weyr was low on weyr-bred youth to stand. He knew his father, and was even taught the art of caring for and riding a dragon from him. Sarandon's fiercest desire was to Impress a dragon of his own, just like his father. His whole will and desire was bent upon it. F'der encouraged this in Sarandon, seeing the exceptional qualities in him that could make a great rider, and hopeful for a good rank for his son. He instilled in him the nobler traits of good leadership, perceptiveness and a likeable nature, qualities which he possessed in abundance himself.
Thanlia, however, was not keen on the idea of Sarandon impressing, though this was the very reason for which she bore her son. A vain and selfish creature, Thanlia saw the restless nature of the boy, and encouraged it. She would take him on her green and they would explore Pern, looking for odd jobs and employment, sometimes even shirking duty at the Weyr to do so. It was Thanlia's hope that he would take a liking to some other pursuit than dragon riding, for she hated the Weyr, but had no choice to be a part of it. Weyr-bred herself, she had been forced on the sands due to a lack of Candidates. Thanlia loved Roaneth, but resented the Weyr and it's rules and structure. But Sarandon stayed steadfast to his dreams despite his mother's prodding.
Sarandon was 15 when he stood for Neltioth's last clutch. When Lath emerged from an egg just at his right hand, the gorgeous chocolate brown dragon immediately and deeply Impressed him. S'don's joy was without bounds. His mother, however, was not so happy, but grudgingly accepted his choice. They were never quite so close after Impression, as it should be. Instead, S'don looked to his father and the Weyrlingmaster. But his mother's work had also been done; he had tasted what life offered outside of the Weyr, and he would not soon forget.
When the Queen went between, S'don joined in mourning her. She had been a magnificent creature, and the fate of the Weyr was uncertain. However, the excitement of moving to Ista soon overshadowed grief, even more so because his first flights between with Lath were in service of the Weyr's move. Ista proved stimulating, the culture far different than he had experienced at High Reaches. Here he learned how to turn a profit on a business venture, how to swim in the sea with his dragon, how pirates made a living! Pirates were extremely exciting to S'don, and he made a few "contacts" and friends as he and Lath grew.
Besides the trouble they got into, or duties they shirked, the most significant event for S'don at Ista was meeting Tanta. This island girl captured his fancy. She rode a green, Lilith, and she was so beautiful as to take his breath away at the first glance. The next time Lilith rose, Lath was right there, and caught her through sheer determination. S'don thought he had found his life's companion. Tanta, however, wasn't so obliging. She laughed and played with him, wouldn't commit to him, but for some reason, she kept the baby growing in her womb. Perhaps it was a desire for motherhood, perhaps it was a duty to her beloved Ista Weyr, but it turned out to be not just one but TWO! Raca and Tanta (named after her mother) entered his world.
The birth of his twins set a conflict off in S'don that would take years to work out. Tanta's continual rejection of him as her wery-mate finally got to him; he quit pursuing her and instead pursued a risky venture at smuggling. The twins, however, were the light of his eyes. He immediately fell for them, loving their beauty, how they reflected Tanta, and how they made him feel as a man. His sense of love and duty towards them warred with his inherently rogue nature. Sad to say, S'don didn't always do the best. He appeared and disappeared in the twin's life as they grew, but they always knew they were his, and felt safest when he was around.
When High Reaches was re-established when the twins were 8, S'don chose to stay at Ista, with Lath's agreement. His life was here now, not at the Weyr of his birth. He was a wingsecond for now, and he wouldn't leave his kids; he had managed to win at least that war in his mind. Besides, his love of the sea was firmly established. They were also in the thick of the rumors of Thread. In his gut, his ever-daring gut, he believed the coalition's claims, Lath echoing his own belief. He joined the coalition's attempt at finding and founding a new Weyr; he was already pretty good at sneaking things around! The danger thrilled him; now this was something worthwhile he could finally throw himself into without guilt. Things became even more tense when Ista went on drill lockdown. He relied on his reputation as a wanderer to stay involved, but lost his position as wingsecond due to his absences.
Having been involved in the smuggling and pirating community for many years, S'don wasn't a fan of the plan to infiltrate the pirate's ranks and break up the smuggling rings. There went his extra marks, and possibly the lives of those he had known for years. He, of course, could not be involved. He was too recognizable to the pirate community. Instead, S'don claimed he was going to suddenly transfer to High Reaches Weyr of his birth to help with the re-establishment of the Weyr, but with every intention of disappearing to the Hidden Weyr. He and Lath didn't even say goodbye to the twins; he couldn't. But he knew he was coming back for them. Ista was not going to be able to protect them as well as they when Thread returned. Once he arrived at Hidden, S'don heartily pitched in. Exploring the islands was his favorite activity, as well as egg-stealing. Now THAT was a rush.
And when the eggs were on the sands at Victory Point, he returned for his children in the night.

Dragon
Name: Lath
Age: 19
Color: Brown
Appearance: The brown is a deep, dark chocolate hue and 34 feet in length. His eyes are a tad smaller than other dragon's of comparable size as well. No other colorings tinge the smooth uniformity of his skin. He seems born for sneaking around at night, blending into the midnight sky almost seamlessly. His body is compact and powerful, a picture of barely contained strength. The sinews and cords on his neck and tail stand out in relief, and his tail is muscular and very thick at the base, as is his neck. This dragon is built like a rhinoceros.
Personality: Lath has a strong mind and obstinate streak of his own. Very opinionated, very bull-necked and usually only swayed by His. In some ways he is opposite of S'don, for he does not compromise easily, and in other ways very complementary, in that they both love to take off and experience something fantastic. He and S'don are deeply bonded, and utterly complete in their love for one another. There is a tendency to tease mercilessly; but only the kind of teasing that means nothing because of what runs beneath it. Lath also styles himself quite the ladies dragon.
