Ellix enjoyed visiting with her two brothers here in Orro, but she wasn't much a fan of their entertainment. She sipped politely at her malt-drink, wrinkling her nose at the taste. It wasn't her favorite drink in the world, but it was cheap, and she wasn't going to spend all of her hard-earned marks on wine. Wine was a delicious treat-- she was particularly fond of Benden White-- but it was expensive to get the imported stuff all the way down here. She got it perhaps once a year. Other times, she splurged on sweet honey wine, but even that wasn't very cheap. For a simple trip to visit her brothers, malt drinks worked just fine to give her a more carefree buzz. She needed to loosen up to be able to laugh with her brothers. It was hard to be the only girl in the family. In being their sister, she needed to learn to hold both her ground and her liquor. Whenever she visited the tanner-brothers, Ivinix and Illivax, they always met at the same pub on the outskirts of the city. It was easy for them to keep their wagon, stock, and draybeasts nearby, while also be in an area that the brothers could visit. Ellix's oldest brother, Elixy, let out a big, booming laugh, accidentally sloshing his malt-drink on his beard.
She tuned them out. She didn't find it fun to whistle at the the servers like her brothers were doing. At least her brothers weren't bothering her, though. Ellix did know how to hold her ground in a pinch. They'd learned that the hard way when they poked fun at her once. So she gave them a poke, and boy, did she ever give them a poke! Working with bovines day in and day out gave her lots of muscles.
Again, Ellix sipped at her malt drink. Then, she heard her brothers sniggering. With a frown, she looked over at them, glaring.
"What're you laughing about, Iv?"
"Didn't you notice the way your server was looking at you, Ellie?" Ivinix teased. She blushed, looking into her lap, annoyed. She wished her brothers didn't get involved in this, but at the same time, she knew she should be looking for a husband.
"Mind your own business, Iv, or I'll give you a black eye to match your tunic."
Her brothers all exchanged a smirk, but Ellix chose not to comment on it. She hated when they brought up the subject of men. It wasn't like she wasn't trying. She knew that she'd have to leave Elixy's farm sooner or later, but it was embarrassing when they brought it up. She sighed. Next visit to Orro, she swore, she'd try seeing if she could buy some land.
