:: Appearance ::
Though able to be called handsome by normal children standards Hinuk's most prominent features are his eyes. A deep and vivid blue, they seem to mimic the depths of the sea. If this wasn't alluring enough, the strong and defiant gaze of the youth certainly does a good trick at getting plenty attention from people. Mostly the boy is a mirror image of the woman that birthed him into this world: rose tinted skin, blue eyes and golden straw colored hair that almost seems to have a tint of rose in it when caught by Rukbat’s rays at just the right angle. It’s only the shape of his eyes, as well as their deep blue hues, and lips that gives away the true sire of the young lad.
Currently standing at a height of 4'4” Hinuk is slightly on the small height scale for boys his age, though he certainly doesn't let this bother him in the least. He's confident that he'll grow to be as tall as he wants (and he’ll eventually reach a nice height of 5’11” when he matures into an adult) since he's perfect after all. His build is very slender, and some muscle mass is becoming more evident, for the boy is very active. Whether it'd be exploring, practicing his fighting or some other form of physical activity one thing is certain: Hinuk's physical state is one many people would envy. His only scars lie high above his left thigh, a reminder of the resent his step-mother harbors for him.
Luckily enough the scars are mostly concealed by the pants and shorts he’s often wearing, so to everyone else’s eyes the boy seems flawless still. A few bruises here or there and dainty small scars have marked him in the past from all his antics, though his skin does a good job of concealing them fairly well.
:: Personality ::
Appearances can be deceiving, and this phrase couldn't be any truer in Hinuk's case. While his soft and still slightly baby-faced features, along with those disarming blue eyes and dirty blond hair, might make most people lower their guard and simply go “awww” this young lad is far from actually having the angelic aura he seems to project. Stubborn and prideful as a breeding runnerbeast stallion Hinuk almost quite literally believes he’s the most perfect thing to grace Pern since its creation – whenever long ago that was. Nothing will be better than him, he’ll be sure to go down into the history books and never disappear – for nothing will be better than him once he’s finally gone.
Always attentive to detail and alert to everything the boy holds a poise of elegance and grace that seems to come naturally to his slim and attractive frame. Head held high, shoulders even and back straight – he’s as refined as elegant as they come when it comes to proper etiquette.
He’s never been one to back down from challenges, and while his build might not be stocky and powerful as most boys his age Hinuk is still well toned and the lad can pack a good punch or kick if needed. However he prefers to rely on his footing and light weight for quick movements, and whenever he does get into brawls the blond lad almost seems to be dancing around as he moves – usually staying out of reach from his opponent at just the right distance. He’s patient and calculating, preferring to wait and toss a few baiting moves, taunts and jabs, just until the right moment pops up where he can capitalize as much as possible from any error his opponent might make in haste.
Possessor of a silvered tongue, Hinuk can talk himself out of almost any situation through his charm and quick wit – an ability he used a lot in his much younger turns to get away with a prank here or there, or blame troubles on poor innocent bystanders. More often than not it usually works, the lad having quite the control over his own body language. While far from being the perfect liar (for controlling one’s body language fully is an almost impossible feat) Hinuk’s attentiveness to detail stretches even to his own movements and reflects; giving the boy an edge when it comes to theatrics. He’s a damn good actor when he wants to be, and he’s very conscious about this fact and uses it wisely.
Alas Hinuk is still a young lad, and since a tender age he’s always been smitten by the lore of dragons. Everything from their colors and sizes to their hierarchy, the boy has focused on reading and memorizing all the information he’s managed to expose into his eyes. They are magnificent beasts in his mind, majestic even in a way, and almost considered as a perfect creature to him – though much as he has a habit for thinking of women as lower than him so does he view Gold dragons. In his mind there’s no reason why a female should be the one to rule over the whole Weyr instead of a Bronze (even if Golds are meant to be bigger and all). He’s simply adamant in his view that female dragons, much like female humans, are useless as well as full of theatrics and drama; only good for one thing: reproducing and keeping the population from extinction.
Still he’s not below sweet-talking and acting cute around women, for the boy knows how much more empathic and willing to be fooled they are – especially to a gorgeous and angelic looking creature as him. While he might think of them as creatures below his greatness Hinuk knows better than to let this fact be known; and likewise he knows to be careful around other men, for unlike women most men are competitive and manipulative – but also quite easy to unnerve and get on your wrong side. He’s still young, therefore lacks power to defend himself, and he’s not about to get himself snuff out so early in the run before he can prove his full greatness and me permanently imprinted in the books and hides of all of Pern.
His ambitions doesn’t seem to know bounds, though the boy manages to try and hide some of his competitive nature; no need to make things harder for himself when he already has it tough to begin with. His dreams of perhaps one day overtaking Igen Hold for his own, however, soon were casted aside after the faithful night the boy was whisked away from his home and into the Archipelago the egg-thieves called home. While he was unsuccessful in impressing this time around the blond doesn’t let this daunt him; besides most of those dragons were muddy and ugly looking anyways.
His moment will come, of that Hinuk is sure, but for now the lad is content to simply keep on honing his combat skills along with his knowledge and wit – lying in wait for the right moment like a feral cat stalking and ready to ambush its prey in the jungle.

:: Background ::
From a young age Hakenna had always been quite the outgoing and vibrant girl. There was nothing the girl felt she couldn’t do, and while her father found it amusing to fuel his daughter’s dreams her mother was more than against it. Sure, it was fine now that she was but a young child, but soon she would have to learn to fit in society – and no well-off man would want to marry a girl that did not know her place in it. It was this clash of ideas what always made the relationship between the two women quite jagged and rough, Hakenna preferring her father Harthon over her mother Ennaelik any time. And so when the man passed away one night after a painful feeling in his chest fifteen turn old Hakenna took the hardest blow.
Her father had always been the neutralizer between the two women, often soothing them both down and keeping the peace in their small house at their minor cothold. Without him emotions raged and disputes escalated, and a couple of sevendays after the humble funeral the girl was out the door and into the world. She refused to conform to the men available in this small place, she refused to give her mother the glee of seeing her submissive and “in her place,” and so Hakenna left. She travelled for a few months with a nomadic family group, until finally fate brought her to Igen Hold.
It was here that she finally decided to stay, the much bigger hold certainly tickling her fancy – though the not bad looking lord holder of the place was her biggest reason for grounding herself in the place. To Hakenna he was everything the young girl could have fantasized in a man, and the fact he was the Lord of the place certainly only made things even better. Through manipulation and acting the girl managed to warm her way into the household, assigned as one of the many housekeepers. It was this the time she used to get closer to the man, tempt him here and there.
And what older man could resist a young fifteen turn old woman? Especially a very willing one… The affair lasted for over a turn, though Annellcheruse was not a blind and oblivious woman. No sooner she felt something was indeed going on she made sure to arrange for a change of responsibilities for Hakenna – if only because the woman could not find a way of convincing Leglemain to send her into another place altogether without outright accusing the Lord Holder of sleeping with the girl. And so at sixteen Hakenna found herself as a stable hand helper. But the young strawberry blond woman wasn’t one to give up willingly, and learning to take proper care of the runners she soon managed to convince her superior to place her in charge of Leglemain’s favorite stallion and mare pair.
It meant more chances to see the man once more, and steamy afternoons… On the eve of her seventeen turns Hakenna found herself giving birth to a young healthy baby boy, named Hinuk if only to avoid people connecting the dots to his sire; but it really wasn’t all that hard to figure out. Still, Leglemain was a powerful man with excellent control – and soon the rumors dwindled down to mere whispers here or there. After all, the man was an excellent ruler, and aside from feeling scorned by him even Annellcheruse seemed more than willing to ignore this new spawn of his loins – she herself had just birthed their fourth child after all, a baby girl named Lenlerussani. Everything seemed well enough, Hakenna restored to her housekeeper duties back in Leglemain’s home (much to Annellcheruse’s obvious displeasure) so the young boy had a decent first four turns of life. On a winter night, after pneumonia robbed him of his mother, instead of being outright fostered away Leglemain insisted on keeping the lad with himself and the rest of his children; unwilling to simply feign ignorance and be irresponsible with the well-being of his youngest son. Once more some opposition was placed by Annellcheruse, but in the end Leglemain always had the final say. Rumors were much harder to placate this time around, if only because Leglemain had basically outright finally admitted his siring of the young boy, but the man paid no heed to whispers and gossip – and so Hinuk grew up for the next four turns with his father and his half-siblings.
For the first part the young lad couldn’t really understand why his “new mother” seemed to always be so resentful towards him, her cold looks and actions made the boy feel no sympathy or endearment for the woman in return – finding her to be only a nuisance. Annellcheruse herself never did try to warm up to the young lad, and the woman seemed to find pleasure in punishing him for every petty mistake. Plenty of times the boy was sent to be caned for this or that, and usually whenever Leglemain was away from the Hold they seemed to escalate in force. Shortly before his eight turns a distinct caning left quite the wounds on the thighs of the young lad – the scars a reminder for Hinuk still that fuel his resentment towards the woman.
While Leglemain was never overly devoted to Hinuk, unlike with his other offspring, the man still made sure the boy was well taken care of just like the rest of the fruit of his loin. As such a bond of respect for the man formed in Hinuk, and while he might not be outright devoted to loving him the young lad can certainly respect him and thus follow his authority. Towards his wife there’s much to be desired, Annellcheruse and Hinuk simply don’t mix – like water and oil – and their resentment for one another is mutual, even if based on entirely different reasons. It didn’t help that the last two daughters of Igen’s rulers, both girls, were always so full of drama and crying and senseless fights – young Hinuk quickly developing an overall dislike for the female population. Sure, he is attracted to them and all; but in the boy’s mind they’re inferior beings only good to serve him. That’s not to say he cannot get along with them, for he did got along well enough with his half-sisters, but he’s not prone to attaching himself to any in deep friendships. They’re simply whinny and useless, and really: he needs no weights dragging him down as he shoots for greatness.
Out of his four half-siblings both his sisters, Allemache and Lenlerussani, got along well with the lad in his younger days; their close age range making them his main play-partners. Gaichannai also never seemed to harbor much resentment towards his smallest brother, though the relationship between Hinuk and Naggallie was always strained. A “momma’s boy,” as Hinuk would always refer towards the current Lord of Igen, Naggallie seemed to pick up on the same resentment his mother harbored towards the bastard son, and plenty of times did he manage to get the much younger Hinuk in trouble through careful prank planning. It was only after the severe caning the young boy got after a particular event that made the then twelve turn old reconsider his actions and stopping his “pin the blame on Hinuk” games.
Soon after, at his eight turns, Annellcheruse was quick to have him whisked away to the Harper Hall to learn various topics and be more educated, even in social graces. He spent here a good three turns, before one night being literally whisked away by a brown dragon and his rider. While the impromptu search was surprising and unpleasing to the lad at first he soon settled down into this new lifestyle, his ambitious spirit soon finding a grand goal for his mind to fixate upon. Dragons were magnificent, and gigantic, beasts – with such power at their disposal Hinuk couldn’t quite understand why most dragonriders seemed to be bend over and willing to take it – working instead as carriers and other petty type of jobs back at the North. While he’s not keen on Weyrs being run by women (or golds) Hinuk’s willing to just ignore that factor for now.
Once he impresses the biggest bronze King Pern has ever seen and becomes Weyrleader he can chance all of that; or at least that’s what the young lad deludes him mind into believing.
