Name: C'cao
Age: 22 years (born August, Turn 1236)
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual (bisexual in practice)
Rank: Greenrider
Designation: Candidatemaster
Wing: High Guard Half-Wing, Vanguard Flight
Appearance:
Slender and light of build, C’cao bears a dancer’s frame and a dancer’s light movements. He is a relatively small fellow at 5’6”, with arms, legs and torso that bear the moderate muscling which comes with the cardiovascular demands of dragonriding. The greenrider is not one who will stand out in a crowd, though he does carry himself with a quiet dignity that asks respect if he is ever noticed, and takes his steps with soft alacrity much like a cat. His skin is of a dark bronze tone, matched by his short, wavy dark brown hair and thick bushy eyebrows. The entire combination makes his eyes stand out: they are of medium size and a pale blue shade, and seem to glow from beneath the arch of his brows and relatively defined brow-bone.
C’cao is generally found in clothes of light or pale forest green tones, though occasionally he turns up in amber or orange tunics, often at random times. A silver pendent in the shape of a shipfish hangs by a simple string around his neck. Like most riders he prefers functionality over design, but he is apt at sewing his own patterns into his clothes. His homemade designs are often simple but well-placed and tasteful.
Personality:
Quote: "There's no turning back now. Till death do us part we'll live - and play our part."
C'cao comes across, at first meeting, as unflappable in the extreme. Cool, calm and collected, with a sense of courtesy and natural ability to talk pleasantries that would easily put the less-perceptive at ease around him. The more alert would eventually notice, however, how one can never quite reach him - somehow he always remains distant despite his gentlemanly manner, untouchable and unfeeling as the walls he has inadvertently built to guard his heart and soul. It is a simple matter for C'cao to make acquittances, even friends; intimacy, however is reserved for a very rare and select few.
Not that he minds the fewer friends he has; the greenrider is by nature is a quiet personality, a man of few words who prefers to keep his own counsel. His nature is gentle and very empathic, and his general tone of voice is likewise soft and kindly. Though he might sometimes appear non-committal at first with his tendency to listen deeply before speaking, he is both patient and understanding with everyone and everything at large. The long turns he has suffered as an outcast have trained his patience and understanding to an inordinate level, and he is not a man who ever wishes deliberate harm on any other creature.
C'cao's anger is slow to rouse, but when thoroughly provoked the greenrider is a vicious opponent to face off. A former Harper by training, he is as articulate as he is fierce when truly angered. A fire burns beneath the cool blue eyes and calm temperament, and woe betide the one who falls foul of it! The man has a deep love for music, the flute especially, and often will play for anyone who wishes to hear it. He also enjoys solitude with only his Opheriath for company, and on off-duty days will take long trips into the surrounding countryside to thrill on his flute alone.

Background:
1. The unwanted child - Turns 1236 to 1246
Coracao never knew the history of his birth, or who his parents were. His earliest memories were of the Fort Weyr creche and the gentle old woman named Hulia who took him as her own. His only tie to his unknown past was his given name and a simple pendent of a shipfish, crafted from silver and hung on a string. Hulia kept it for him until he was old enough to take care of it, and throughout his years he looked to her as the mother he never had.
Yet from the very first, the creche made assumptions of the child that would scar him for life. The workers made much ado of the torn cloths that had wrapped the babe, of the thin-scrawled writing on the parchment that had indicated his name beside him, and the silver pendent that he wore constantly from the time he turned 8 turns of age. They drew links to the tattered-clothed woman with the bulging stomach who had been sighted around the Weyr just before the child's appearance on its doorstep. They assumed, until it was all but truth, that small Coracao had been born of Holdless parents, perhaps even renegades, and had been abandoned into the creche for the purpose of sparing him the fate that had befallen them. And the Weyr children, picking up on their elders’ subtle disdain and scorn, could do no less than follow their treatment of the boy, bullying and teasing him mercilessly.
Life was already tough in the Weyr, living in the fading shadows of the once-great dragonriders; but it was tougher yet with the continued persecution. Hulia tried to protect him, of course, and he took much comfort in her love for him; yet there was only so much an elderly drudge could do against the cruel manners of an entire creche. If there was anything that kept him sane in his saddest moments however, it was the dragons themselves. Massive, powerful and ever-present, the sight of a Wing at drills (no matter how sloppy to the trained eye) never failed to awe the boy's face; one of the few times he ever showed more emotion than learned impassivity. He could spend hours, sometimes, just watching them fly.
It was Hulia who would eventually discover Coracao's love of music when she gave him a roughly-made flute as a birthing-day gift as he became 9 turns of age. He began to teach himself tunes almost at once, and soon became adept at finding quiet places within the Weyr to practice. It was not long before his childish tries at the instrument caught the attention of someone.
2. The Harper's apprentice- Turns 1246 to 1250
That person happened to be Sonarer, a Journeyman Harper of Fort Hold who was visiting his sister working in the Creche. Uncertain of the child's rumoured lineage, he nevertheless had to admit that Coracao showed talent with the flute. He hesitantly took the boy with him to see two other Masters wthin the vicinity, and it was eventually agreed to apprentice him to the Harpers when he became 12 turns of age. Coracao returned to the creche to be greeted with rapturous joy by Hulia, and jealous envy by the other children. The teasing got worse after that, but Coracao paid them no heed. Life was looking up for him, with a promised place for him beyond the sad confines of the dying Weyr, and he wanted to savour it.
Tragedy would come before that, however. Coracao was 11 turns of age when Hulia passed away from old age, just months before a mentally disabled drudge named Giennash would Impress the gold Itwasath. But the little boy cared little for that; all he knew was that Hulia's death had left him shattered. Yet for her memory’s sake he was determined to make something of himself, and threw himself even more into his practice. It was during this turn that he composed some of the best works of his young life, excellent pieces for a boy of his turns and lack of training. But Coracao had no one to tell him that his tunes were good, and even if people did mention it to him, he simply thought they were jibbing him indirectly.
When the boy reached 12 turns, Sonarer returned for him as promised, and so began the happiest time in Coracao’s childhood memories. He was apprenticed to the Master Harper Synjor at the Harper Hall. Synjor’s working quarters were full of new things for Coracao: instruments he had never seen before, songs he had never heard before, and people he had never known existed. It was a new life for the young boy, and he threw himself into it with a vigor to match the lost years of the creche. Coracao was soon proficient in several instruments besides the flute, though it remained his best and favourite instrument.
But it all changed again the day the bluerider came. The man had happened by the Hall bearing messages, and while he was busy his blue sought out the 14-turn-old lad practicing his flute in the open courtyard, and refused to budge from his side. Coracao, having been raised in the creche, felt no fear at all in its presence. His teacher Synjor, though annoyed by the blue’s presence, was not surprised when the rider finally came back and announced that his dragon had chosen Coracao for a candidate.
The boy's first reaction was, not surprisingly, disbelief. Though wonder and respect had always characterized his feelings for the dragons, hope had been eroded by those around him, turn by turn, until all that remained was the bitter afterthought that no dragon would bother with the fuss of living with a child of Holdless lineage like him. At any rate he had found a future with the Harpers: he did not want to go back to a place where he had never felt welcome or wanted.
Synjor’s views, however, were different. He knew his apprentice well enough to understand the awe the young man still felt for the dragons in spite of their riders' many failings - inspiration that came out most strongly in his raw compositions and their accompanying drawings, setting words against images of great wings filling the sky with wonder. It was with his encouragement and his promise to allow the youngster to continue Harper training even if he Impressed that made Coracao finally accept the offer. He returned with the bluerider to Fort Weyr, Stood for the hardening clutch, and promptly emerged at the end of it with a green dragonet trailing him.
Once again, life had changed forever for Coracao, now known as C’cao.
3. Dragonrider- Turns 1250 to 1252
When the shock of Impressing had passed, C’cao settled down to prove himself a steady worker in the weyrling class. Life was not easy: there were weyrlings who had known him from the Creche days, and they rode colours of higher station than him. Nor was the lax Weyrlingmaster very given to looking out for his younger or weaker charges - in many respects it was every weyrling for himself, and though C'cao did make friends who would look out for him, he still took a good share of the bullying that went around the class.
But his Opheriath was supportive. She seemed to be the one creature in all the Weyr who believed he would be a success, and he took hope in both her encouragement and the expression his flute gave him in the quieter moments of life. His old Master Synjor wrote to express his congratulations, and true to his word he sent Sonarer down with a bundle of notes, telling C’cao to resume studying whenever he felt ready to. This offer was taken eagerly by the green weyrling - having lived in the Weyr for most of his life he knew well that the day might come when the dragonriders no longer had a place in society, and it would be every man for himself. Despite the distance between his Master and himself, he undertook his studies as much as he could despite his duties to Opheriath and the Weyr, working along slowly at minuets and crotchets and the use of varying shades in sketching.
C’cao eventually graduated weyrling class in Turn 1252 with no major incidents and a newfound respect from many of his former detractors. The graduation to being a full dragonman came, however, with new responsibilities and heavier concerns. With the loss of Hinjerath and her rider just the turn before, Sk’oner had forced his way into power against the helpless Giennash - effectively placing the Weyr within the influence of Fort Hold and its Lord Holder. There were many, particularly the old school riders, who felt strongly against this turn of events; but with Giennash and Itwasath being the way they were and the strength of the Hold behind Sk'oner, none dared speak too openly against it. So it was that C'cao, a mere greenrider and newly graduated weyrling, came into his first Wing assignment with a melancholy heart and a bitter taste in his mouth at what the future might hold for the riders.
4. Renegade - Turns 1252 to Present
It was not long after that he was first approached, discreetly, by a secret coalition of riders who believed Thread would return soon to Pern. Disbelief was, as most would expect, his initial reaction; but out of a deep-felt desire for the dragonriders to have a purpose (any purpose whatsoever) once more, he allowed himself to be convinced to attend one of the secretive viewing sessions on the few remaining Star Stones. What he saw dispelled any further doubts he had, and from that point on C'cao was a committed member of the group.
At first exploration was the main order of things, with quiet visits to the Western Archipelago, the establishment of friendly resources within the Weyrs and Holds and the occasional skirmish with Western pirates. It soon went further however, as riders began faking deaths and transfers to put their full focus into building the secret Weyr that would be the hope of Pern. Frustrated and unhappy with the slovenly and power-driven circumstances at Fort Weyr, it was not long before C'cao followed suit. In the Turn 1255 he went out on one of his solitary trips to the countryside to play his flute and then never returned. It would, he hoped, be assumed that he had met with some mishap or somehow went between without coordinates; and indeed no one ever came looking for him nor tried to contact Opheriath. Hiding out on the Western Island Chain with the other riders of Hidden Weyr who had done the same, he threw himself into assisting with the establishment of their secret Weyr.

Large. This guy is definitely on the big side for a blue, and it will likely be his most noticeable physical trait. He isn’t just a fast starter either. His clutch mates will not catch up to him in growth, no matter how hard they might try. Were it not for the color of his hide, he could be mistaken for a slightly-smaller-than-average brown by size alone. Aside from this though there’s nothing all that remarkable about this guy. His hide is sort of a medium blue with hints of cerulean coming through when he’s in good lighting. He is mostly devoid of markings, aside from a barely-noticeable snip of pale blue-white between his nostrils.
Personality:
With a heart almost as big as he is, it won’t take much effort on this blue’s part to win people over. He adores everyone, although none so much as his bonded. Friendly and welcoming, he will chatter at anyone who crosses his path, human and draconid alike. This (not so) little blue is quite apt to share with others as well; anything he has that someone else doesn’t he will gladly give. So don’t be surprised if you wake up to find a pile of useless little ‘pretties’ in your furs, courtesy of your overly affectionate flitter. Unfortunately, as sweet as he is, this blue is really not very bright. Basic commands will take months to learn, and he won’t be able to learn much more than that; but at least he’ll be willing!
Name: Opheriath
Age: 8 turns
Color: Green
Appearance:
Opheriath's pelt is of a very pale green, so pale it is nearly white, and cast with a soft seaform sheen. Her hide colouring is mostly solid, darkening only along her spine and around her eyes: darker green rings her eyes in delicate whirls that seem to take the form of leaf-like patterns.
Opheriath is on the small side as greens go and very dainty, with elegant and feminine curves to her overall frame. That natural petite beauty is marred somewhat by the long silvery scars that trace the edge of her left wing and furrow the left flank: a constant reminder of an encounter with hostile Northerners during the period when the coalition still bivouacked on the Western Archipelago. Her tail is long for a dragon, and her wings are surprisingly wide: both make for a green of great balance in the air, and capable of gliding for longer hours than average for her kind.
Personality:
Opheriath is not a dragon who will bugle, croon or shriek her feelings in any way - she is physically mute, and has been so since she first broke shell. Incapable of producing sound through non-existent vocal cords, this green speaks with her heart: with the quiet touch of her mind, the light motions of her limbs, and the soft whirl of her eyes. Telepathically, she tends to be very quiet as well, speaking only when neccessity calls for it. Being a strongly emotional dragon, she prefers to express her feelings to C'cao through raw sentience rather than any linguistics. The strength of her emotions make her a dragon easily hurt or angered by others, and can cloud her judgement if she feels strongly about something.
But Opheriath is not unintelligent, and with her sensitivity to feelings she is quick to pick up on the underlying currents of any situation. A social creature by nature, she also dislikes being left alone, and is as happy in the company of humans as she is with dragons. Her loyalty and love for her rider run deep as her feelings do, as well. Heavily influenced by her rider's love of music, this green is very capable of expressing herself through song as well, and a clear undertone of melody tinges her words whenever she mind-speaks with anyone.
Anything else?
Opheriath was created by Symphony from Sanctum Weyr, and all credit goes to her for the idea for this fine dragon. Thanks!

Thanks!
