Vanguard Island

This island is not one which would make an easy home. An old and quiescent volcano lies at its core, with a blasted caldera and monstrous rocky cliffs. Basalt is the most common rock here, but other igneous stones such as pumice and obsidian are not uncommon. The vegetation here is grasses, lichen, moss, and bushes, forming a lush-seeming blanket of green atop the dark rocks. Rainfall is frequent, feeding a circular lake at the center of the caldera, as well as several springs. A small rocky island near the middle of the lake is the mouth of the sleeping volcano.
